We will be acting as engineers this week we will be making a bridge and it will have to be able to hold a certain amount of weight. We will be placing the bridge across a sink and everyone will be having the exact same weight.
We will be using:
One meter of tape
Six sheets of news paper roled up
For our bridge we rolled the sheets of news paper into thin sticks. once we had done that we tested them and we put the weights over top. We ended up with it reach 4 KG!! for the weights. At fifty our bridge bent into the sink. We wanted it to be able to hold fifty so we added tape to the middle where it bent and then used the rest of our tape for the edges to keep them in place.
After looking at everyone else's bridges we realised that we aren't the only ones using that technique, so we would just have to wait and see to find out whose is better.
In the end our bridge held 7 KG!!! and we also one the competition.
I think that our bridge was so strong because of the way we constructed it. We rolled the paper so that it was really thin and there was more layers to one roll. Which made it harder to bend.
